A 38 year-old St. Elizabeth man who was accused of sexually abusing his more than 80 year- old mother, was shot dead by the police on Wednesday night in as Top Hill in that parish. The police had gone there to execute an arrest warrant.
Conrad Josephs, at the time of his death, was wanted by the St. Elizabeth Police for cases of rape and buggery.
Josephs, who was otherwise called ‘Funta’, hailed from Top Hill. It is reported that he, on many occasions, sexually assaulted his Mother by buggering her.
The incident, according to the police information arm — the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) release, occurred on Wednesday, August 25, 2010.
The CCN said: “The Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI) has commenced a probe into an incident in which a man was fatally shot by the police in Top Hill district, St. Elizabeth yesterday (Wednesday), about 11:50 p.m.”
The CCN further said that “more details will be provided as the investigation progresses.”
Information reaching this newspaper is that three police officers attached to the station went to Joseph’s house. When they arrived, they knocked on the door and he then responded by saying he is not coming out.
The police then asked Josephs to come out of the house. It is further reported that he issued a threat to the cops by saying if he comes out, he would kill them all.
This newspaper understands that Josephs was also seen inside the house with a knife in his right hand. The police gained entrance by kicking in the door. When officers tried to apprehend him he reportedly stabbed at them.
One of the officers jump backward when the knife came at him. Another officer then stands that Josephs was also shot Josephs. His body was later moved to the morgue for a post mortem. Up to presstime yesterday, it could not be ascertained how long he was being sought by the police.
