Woman accused of lover's murder out on bail

No. 44 Friday, January 22, 2010
A woman, who is accused of murdering her lover, was granted bail in the sum of $100,00 when she appeared before the Montego Bay RM court on Wednesday, January 20.
Janet Ferguson, 45, of Canaan District, Adelphi, St. James, is charged with the murder of George Ellis, 33, also of Adelphi.
As a condition of her bail, she was instructed to report to the Adelphi Police Station on Mondays.
She is booked to reappear before the court on May 12 when the preliminary inquiry is expected to begin.
The prosecution is alleging that on September 25, 2009, the woman was in the vicinity of her house celebrating her birthday when Ellis came there and an argument developed.
In a caution statement that Ferguson gave to the police on January 11 this year, she said that during the dispute the deceased grabbed her and bit her and she used a knife to stab him.
She further stated that she took the wounded man to the hospital and took care of him while he was there and on return the next day, she learnt that he had died.
The court was further told that Ferguson said she did not intend to hurt him.
She handed over herself to the police on December 13, 2009.
