Ex-soldier among two killed in Trelawny

By Shamir Brown
Two men, including a Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) ex-soldier, were killed by a group of men in the Mahogany Hall community in Trelawny.

The men killed have been identified as 29 year old Dwayne Petgrave otherwise called 'Kernel' and Marlon Johnson, 26, otherwise called 'Belly', both of Sawyers in the parish.
Reports are that about 10:30 a.m., the two were walking towards their farm, when they were ambushed by a group of men armed with guns and machetes. The gang immediately inflicted chop wounds and opened fire, hitting the two killing them on spot.
The police were called and on their arrival, the bodies were removed to the morgue for a post mortem.
Reports also said that the police had a difficult task in retrieving the bodies. It is understood that it took them over an hour to cross the rough terrain on foot to get to the site of the murders. Mules had to be used to take the bodies down to the vehicles.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom now hangs over the community as residents try to come to grips with the savage acts.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the killings could be an act of reprisal for the slaying of a man in Clark's Town, who was shot up in his car. Residents have become concerned about this and are asking the security forces to step up patrols in the
area to prevent such incidents from happening.
The Clark's Town Police, who are investigating, are appealing to anyone who may have information about the killers or their whereabouts, to contact 954-1080, Kingfish at 811, Crime Stop at 311, police 119 emergency number or any other police station.
