The police killed one armed man in the Norwood community on Friday night, sparking the protest of some residents. They are protesting against what they claim to be an unjust killing by the lawmen. The police are saying, however, that they were first fired upon by two men and they were forced to return fire, resulting in one being killed.

A new date has been picked for a preliminary hearing for a St. James man facing multiple murder charges.
David Thelwell, 29, of Glendevon, St. James, was charged after he allegedly shot and killed four persons in Hendon, St. James, and injuring three other persons in the incident.

A woman, who is accused of murdering her lover, was granted bail in the sum of $100,00 when she appeared before the Montego Bay RM court on Wednesday, January 20.
Janet Ferguson, 45, of Canaan District, Adelphi, St. James, is charged with the murder of George Ellis, 33, also of Adelphi.

The man who was shot in a drive-by attack on Tuesday morning while walking from Mt. Salem in Montego Bay has been identified.
He is Rohan Oliver, a 43 year-old Canadian citizen who was staying with relatives in the community of Coopers Hill Terrace in that community.

The three latest victims are: 19 year-old Adrian Campbell of Content District, Adelphi; 17 year-old Aarando 'Rando' Whittaker, a student of Spot Valley High School of a Salt Spring address and an unidentified man believed to be in his late 30s. The body of the unidentified man was discovered in bushes at Mt. Carey District yesterday.

A teenage boy who reportedly went inside the Fontana Pharmacy and stole a bottle of Rum Cream and a bottle of Alize has been released on bail.
Murder preliminary hearing date set
A preliminary inquiry date has been set in the case against two men accused of the murder of 42 year-old Clifton Brown of Whitehall, St. Elizabeth. Facing the murder charge is Leighton McLennon, 22, of Stonehenge, St. James and Kimari Stephen, 26, of Ginger Hill, St. Elizabeth. The two men were remanded in custody until January 25, 2010 when the preliminary inquiry will begin. Reports are that on May 17,2009 about 1:45pm, Brown, who was a salesman, was driving his Toyota Townace panel van along the Summer Hill main road when two men posing as customers stopped him. The men shot him several times and robbed him as well as to relieve him of his license firearm before fleeing the scene. Brown was pronounced dead at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

Two Falmouth vendors were killed in separate incidents on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Dead are Keith Plummer and Denzil Thomas. Plummer, aka ‘Duval’ and ‘Dagga Man’, was killed on Tuesday night after he was involved in a tussle with three other men. According to police reports he was killed around 7:10pm along Falmouth Street in the parish capital after being stabbed by unknown assailants while they had become engaged in a fight. He was taken to the Falmouth hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An American national who tried to leave the island with a quarter of a pound of marijuana was fined $2,600.00 when he appeared before the Montego Bay RM court on Thesday, December 8.John Carlino, 59, of Pennsylvania could, however, spend 30 days in the lock-up if the fine is not paid.
He pleaded guilty to possession and attempting to export the illegal drug. “Do you wish to say anything to the court before I hand down sentence,” Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small asked the accused man. “I know I was wrong and I realize it is a wakeup call for me... It will never happen again,” Carlino said.
The magistrate then ordered Carlino to pay a fine of $400.00 or 30 days. for possession of the drug and $1,200.00 or 30 days on the export charge. He was also asked to pay $1,000.00 for court cost.
Reports are that on December 6, 2009 about 12:30pm, the officer was on counter-narcotic duties at the Sangster International Airport when he received certain information which led him to the search room where he met the accused. The officer asked Carlino why he was in the search room and he told the officer that he had some ganja in his possession.
The accused man then removed a package with the weed from his left pants foot. When cautioned, he reportedly said to the lawman, “I. love to smoke ganja so I was taking a bit back for my smoking pleasure.. .1 am sorry”
