Montegonian wins millions from Digicel

No. 63 Monday, March 8, 2010
Five more Jamaicans are now looking ahead to realizing long-held goals, courtesy of mobile provider Digicel.

    Fayanna Barnett, Cora Whyte, Morland
Williams, Patricia Brown and Sanchez Smith are the latest winners in the Digicel Gimme $5 Million promotion.
A self-confessed "regular" of Digicel Promotions, Montego Bay resident Fayanna Barnett was elated at tasting success. "I really couldn't believe it," she said, "It feels good to actually win something." Fayanna, a mother of three (a 12-year old and two-year old twins) is now eagerly making arrangements to resume her training to become a nurse.
Jovial aspiring nurse Cora Whyte now also has her nursing studies covered. A resident of Manchester, Whyte said she was actually in Montego Bay at the time she got the call. "What you say?" was her first response to the news, but she soon got used to her new millionaire status and proceeded to gleefully call family and friends.
Young farmer, Morland Williams was standing outside his regular local shop when he got the initial call. Thinking it to be either a prank or scam, he gave a
"false name", but persistence on the part of the Digicel representative paid off for the farmer.
The farmer says he plans to use his new fortune to help develop his holdings and build himself a home. "I feel so good, really excited," he said, on receiving his million-dollar cheque.
In the meantime, between work (at a wholesale) and raising her 12 year old son, Patricia Brown has a busy life, and she's grateful for the timely assistance . that her million-dollar prize will provide. Like her fellow winners, Patricia plans to use her winnings wisely, particularly in purchasing building materials for the construction of her own home.
Amid their excitement and elation, the winners were full of praise for Digicel, and were unanimous in agreement that the leading mobile provider made it easy for its customers to continue their support.
The promotion reached both pre-paid and postpaid Digicel customers across Jamaica. Pre-paid customers were automatically entered in the promotion when they topped up with $200 or more in a day, while post-paid customers got an entry for every 20 minutes of talk time accumulated over the period.
Each day, leading up to the grand draw, 100 customers were randomly selected and the first 50 persons to correctly repeat the Digicel tagline when contacted by Digicel, won $500 worth of call credit.
