The three top spots in the Jamaica Fire Brigade Area 4 Essay Competition were taken by fire-fighters from the Westmoreland Division.
The three top spots in the Jamaica Fire Brigade Area 4 Essay Competition were taken by fire-fighters from the Westmoreland Division.
They are Lancelot Farquharson (first place) from the Negril Station, Marlon Gordon (second) and Clive Grant (third) from the Savanna-la-Mar station. They got a number of topics to choose from with the winning essay being scribed on the issue of 'gay couples adopting children'.
Speaking with the winner, Farquharson, he related that he was pleased to have won the competition and was glad for the opportunity to give his opinion on an issue that is so controversial.
Acting Assistant Commissioner, Dave McLaughlin, who has responsibility for Area 4, declared that this is just a few of the strategies that are being employed to show that the fire department has a very high level of' literacy to rival any organization and will continue to work in different ways to ensure that the people of Jamaica are safe and secure. He further stated that he was pleased with the level of work that was shown and hopes to see bigger and better things next year.
The event which is in its first year was conceptualized by outgoing Area Commissioner, Vansbert Lawrence in September last year, in a bid to get fire-fighters into activities that will better aid to develop their job skills.
