[COURTHOUSE]:::SOCIAL ENQUIRY REPORT HOLDS UP LARCENY SENTENCE

No. 64 Wednesday, March 10, 2010
An outstanding social enquiry report has caused a delay in the sentencing of a St. James man who is facing a larceny charge.

Tavangh Smith, 18, of Flanker -in the parish was charged after he stole a woman's cell phone.
When the matter came before the Montego Bay RM Court on Monday, March 8, it came to light that Smith did not attend the probation office in order to be interviewed, which resulted in the report not being prepared.
Smith told the court that he did not attend the office due to illness.
He had his bail extended until March 30 when the matter will again be mentioned.
Reports are that on January 5, 2010 about 4:30pm, the complainant was walking along Barnett Street in the vicinity of the St. James Bakery when she felt someone grabbed her hand and relieved her of her cell phone which is said to value $16,000.
Someone who had witnessed the incident alerted the police and Smith was held with the phone.
The phone was reportedly found inside his back pants pocket.
