Javier Peak flourished on the opening day of the new look St. James FA division one competition, netting a hattrick against West Green and watched his team run out 3-1 victors on Saturday at Jarrett Park.
Rosemount Gardens and West Green both started out on a fast pace but Rosemount Gardens would capitalize first. The hard running and skillful Javier Peak breached the West Green defence in the 318t minute to score from close range.
Having got the opening goal, Rosemount piled on the pressure, but were unable to increase the lead as the score remained unchanged going into the half.
In the second half, Rosemount stepped up the tempo and Peak again scored in the 63rd minute to give his team a 2-0 cushion.
However, West Green came roaring back and pulled back a goal in the 71st minute through Anthony Walker, but Peak would get his hat-trick when he converted once more in the 73rd minute.
In the second game of the afternoon, Tomorrow People and Granville City squared off and a brace from Jermaine Francis in the 23 and 83rd and another from Burbin Brissette 63rd carried them to a convincing 3-1 win over Granville City. Andrew Allen scored from the penalty spot to give Granville City a consolation.
"We are really pleased with the way things are going this afternoon, the teams appeared pumped up and ready to go and it is a positive sign that the season will be a very competitive one," the FA President, George Evans, said at the league's opening ceremony.
"Once again we would like to thank Claro for coming on board and assisting the St James FA when we really needed the support. Our main emphasis at the present time is youth development because that is what we will need going forward," Evans added.
The competition continues on Thursday with a full slate of matches.
One week ago, mobile providers Clara held a press conference outlining their four years, $12 million sponsorship agreement with the St. James F.A The sponsorship will cover the divisions one and two competitions.
