Minister Grange mourns the death of Ras Junior Manning

The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Honourable Olivia Grange, MP has ex­pressed regret at the passing of Ras Junior Manning. Ras Junior Manning served as a member of the National Commission on Reparations, a cause to which he had been person­ally committed for many years.

    The secretariat for the National Commission on Reparations is in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.
    Minister Grange described Ras Manning as "one of those indomitable soldiers in the movement for the restoration of pride and dignity to our African ancestry" .
    He was Chairman of the Ethio-African Diaspora Millennium Union Council, an umbrella organisation with representation from-all the mansions of Rastafari and committed to the centralisation of decisions governing Rastafari concerns and matters. As Chairman, Ras Junior Manning was tireless in his efforts to maintain the presence of Rastafari in deliberations and activities related to Jamaican culture. He also represented the Rastafari community in meetings and conferences with the African Diaspora as well as in the Smithsonian Exhibition Discovering Rastafari.
    Minister Grange said, "Ras Junior Manning will certainly be missed. He is noted for the passion with which he expressed his opinions on the Reparations Commission as he represented the views of Rastafari."
    Ras Junior Manning will also be remembered for his leadership in the planning of activities to mark the anniversary of the Coral Gardens incident.
    "Rastafari has lost one of its most outstanding sons," said Minister Grange.
    The Minister ex­pressed condolences to Ras Junior Manning's widow, Rose, his children, family, loved ones, and the Rastafari community and joins them in mourning his passing.
